The Omicron variant of Corona has worried the world. In view of the increasing cases, many countries have ordered to speed up testing-isolation, while many countries including UK, Sri Lanka, Maldives have imposed travel ban on African countries.
Strictness has been increased in Britain regarding the new variant of Corona, Omicron. Here it has been advised not to be lax regarding travel bans, face masks and testing. Now all citizens above 18 years will be given a booster dose. Till now this dose was being given only to those above 40 years of age. To speed up the vaccination of the booster dose, the gap between the second and third doses can also be reduced. Now it is 6 months and it can be reduced to 5 months.
So far, 18 million people have been given booster doses in the UK. The decision to give a booster dose to all adults has been taken because 75 potential samples of the South African variant are being tested in British labs. Here 3 such cases have been confirmed and the people who came in contact with them are also being traced.
Health Minister Sajid Javed said that mandatory PCR testing for all foreign visitors to the UK will also be implemented as soon as possible. The minister emphasized that he hopes the all-new measures will give scientists more time to analyze the infectivity and vaccine-resistance levels of the Omicron form.
The Omicron form of Covid-19 was detected in South Africa earlier this week. It has been cited as a cause of concern by the World Health Organization (WHO). Cases have been reported in Belgium, Israel, Hong Kong and Europe. Also, two cases have been reported in Britain.
