The cyclone Yas is expected to hit the shores of Odisha and West Bengal on 26 May. Prime Minister Modi held meetings with senior officials, representatives of the National Disaster Management Authority, secretaries of the ministries of telecommunications, power, civil aviation and earth sciences.
The Prime Minister reviewed the preparations to deal with the cyclone ‘Yas’. PM Modi has asked the officials to evacuate those involved in coastal activities in time. Home Minister Amit Shah and other ministers were also present in this meeting.
The process of becoming a low pressure area has started in the Middle Eastern part of the Bay of Bengal. It will take the form of cyclonic storm Yas by 24 May. The Meteorological Department said that Cyclone Yas is likely to move towards north, northwest. Yas will hit the coast of Bengal and Odisha on 26 May. Due to this, heavy rains are also forecast in both the states from 22 to 26 May.
Four ships and airplanes have been placed on standby by the Navy’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Group on the east coast. Also, divers and medical teams have also been instructed to be prepared. Eight flood relief teams and four divers teams have been deployed in the coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha.
