President Appoints New Governors for Eights States

On Tuesday, just a day before the cabinet expansion in the central government, President Ram Nath Kovind appointed 8 governors simultaneously. One of them is also Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot. He has been made the Governor of Karnataka.

Thawar Chand was a minister in the cabinet from MP quota. It is believed that Thawar Chand has been removed from the cabinet to replace Jyotiraditya Scindia. Thawar Chand, 73, has been a constant member of Modi’s cabinet since he became prime minister in 2014. However, what will be the profile of Scindia, it is not yet decided. It is definitely a discussion that Modi will entrust him with a big responsibility. Till now there were 4 ministers in the Modi cabinet from Madhya Pradesh. Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Thawar Chand Gehlot and Faggan Singh Kulaste.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may expand the cabinet on July 8. At present, 28 ministerial posts are vacant in the cabinet and it is being told that 17-22 MPs can be sworn in as ministers. According to sources, Modi has held meetings with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP Organization General Secretary BL Santosh on cabinet expansion for two days.

Several leaders including former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Narayan Rane, who left the Congress and joined the BJP, have been called to Delhi today amid the prospects of Modi’s cabinet expansion. Most of the MPs and leaders three are reaching Delhi this afternoon.
