Several Delhi Malls, Hotels Declared Single-Use Plastic Free

Several malls and hotels in South Delhi have been declared single-use plastic free on the occasion of ‘International Plastic Bag Free Day’. This announcement is the result of the efforts of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). Delhi’s Select City Walk Mall Saket, DLF Avenue Saket, MGF Mall Saket, Ambience Mall, DLF Promenade Vasant Kunj, ITC Sheraton Hotel, Saket Grand Hotel Vasant Kunj, Hyatt Hotel, Eros Hotel Nehru Place, DLF Emporio Vasant Kunj Mall plastic free has been declared.

In Delhi, the Southern Municipal Corporation organized various programs in all the four zones on ‘International Plastic Bag Free Day’. Public awareness campaigns were conducted in the presence of corporation officials and councilors in all zones and plastic free zones were declared. In which various malls and hotels in the southern zone have been declared plastic free. Select City Mall Saket, DLF Avenue Saket, MGF Mall Saket, Ambience Mall, DLF Promenade Vasant Kunj, ITC Sheraton Hotel, Saket Grand Hotel Vasant Kunj, Hyatt Hotel, Eros Hotel, Nehru Place, DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj are included. 1000 kg of plastic waste collected from several RWAs of Southern Zone was also given to UNDP organization for recycling.

On the occasion of ‘International Plastic Day’, a ‘Palaging Run’ was organized at Vikaspuri Market in Western Zone. In which the Regional Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Councilor joined the run, picked up the plastic waste scattered on the roads and distributed cloth bags to the citizens. Memorandums were also signed with various hotels and malls for declaring single use plastic free zone in the western zone and oath was administered not to use single use plastic. The memorandum on which the memorandum was also signed by Unity Mall, Hotel Piccadilly, Janak Puri, Pacific Mall Subhash Nagar, SK Premium Hari Nagar, Hotel Tulip Hari Nagar, R-Cube Monad Mall Raja Garden.

So in Najafgarh zone also ‘Plan the Ben’ campaign was launched under which citizens were inspired to use cloth bags instead of polythene bags through street plays and oath was administered. Also a workshop was organized in the central zone on the ill-effects of single use plastic and after 1000 cloth bags were distributed to the people.
