Heavy rains with strong winds continued in many parts of Goa on Sunday due to cyclonic storm ‘Taukate’ in the Arabian Sea. The Meteorological Department said that there will be rain throughout the day in the state. Electricity supply has come to a standstill in many areas due to rain. Officials said that no casualties were reported so far.
Goa Energy Minister Nilesh Cabral said that due to strong winds, electric poles have been uprooted, due to which electricity has been lost in most areas of Goa.
The Department of Energy has deployed all its personnel to restore power supply, but strong winds are becoming an obstacle in restoring electricity service. Ashok Memon, director of fire and emergency services in the state, said that hundreds of calls have been received in the control room to felling trees and disrupting roads.
