Thailand: At Least 25 Students Killed in School Bus Fire

KHU KHOT, Thailand — A devastating incident occurred on Phahon Yothin Road near the Zeer Rangsit shopping mall around 12:30 PM local time, where a school bus carrying 44 children caught fire, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 students. The bus was part of an educational trip organized for students from Uthai Thani province, approximately 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of Bangkok.

Initial reports indicate that six teachers were also on board, with their destination currently unknown. As rescue efforts continue, police have confirmed that 16 students and three teachers were hospitalized for treatment. The exact number of casualties and injuries remains uncertain as authorities assess the scene.

Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit announced that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed condolences to the families of the victims, acknowledging the tragic loss.
