Thailand COVID-19 Cases January 23, 2022 Update

Thailand Ministry of Health reports 7,686 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 13 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 7,445 recovered patients.

The cases remain constantly on the 7,000-8,000 as the government decides to begin easing the curbs. Among the implementations, they have decided on is the reopening of the Test and Go scheme. This allows tourists from all countries to apply for a Thailand pass and enter the country. Unlike the previous version where tourists have to stay 1 day at a hotel, the revision implements a 7-day stay. This along with 2 RT-PCR tests before you are cleared to roam around the country.

The government is also planning to introduce a “wellness sandbox” which will be hosted by Hua Hin and Cha-Am beach. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a government spokesman said that the Centre for Economic Situation Administration approved the proposal. Hua Hin and Cha-am will be touted as destinations for wellness tourism targeting tourists from neighboring countries in ASEAN as well as from Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and Canada.

As the threat of omicron seems to plateau, additional proposals are submitted to enter destinations as part of a sandbox or test and go program.
