Thailand Ministry of Health reports 11,535 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 91 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 22,022 patients recovered from the COVID-19 virus.
The cases along with the fatalities have begun to fall as the daily cases tally fall below 15,000 and the deaths fall below 100. This is a positive sign for the country’s desire to declare covid as endemic by July 1. Despite the downward trend in both categories, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the government would not rush to declare the coronavirus an endemic disease until the number of new cases falls below 10,000 and the death rate falls below 0.1 percent of patients treated in hospitals, according to government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana.
The 91 patients who died ranged in age from 28 to 101, with an average age of 79, according to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration. One of them was a British citizen.
Seven people died as a result of the coronavirus in Nakhon Ratchasima, one more than in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Bangkok had only one death, but the capital’s neighboring provinces had ten. There were 22 deaths in other central plains provinces that were further away from the capital.
Vaccinations are still going strong, with 133.57 million doses given out as of Saturday. According to the government, 80.9 percent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, 73.8 percent has received two doses, and 37.3 percent has received a booster shot.
A total of 35,325 patients were receiving Covid-19 therapy in hospitals as of Saturday. According to the department’s daily update, the rest were in hospital facilities/field hospitals (15,720) or in-home/community isolation (89,480).
