Thailand COVID Update May 6, 2022

Thailand Ministry of Health reports 7,705 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 62 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 11,252 patients recovered from the COVID-19 virus.

The Thai government is anticipated to propose eliminating the necessity for Thais returning from overseas to register for a Thailand Pass.

Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health said the government will ask the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to reconsider the rule.

It was preserved for international arrivals, but Mr. Anutin said the CCSA will be requested to delete it in the future.

When asked if the emergency measure established to stop Covid-19 should be prolonged, Mr. Anutin said it was up to the prime minister to decide.

He, on the other hand, sees no problem with the decree being kept because it supports steps to limit the virus.

However, once the pandemic is dropped to endemic status, Mr. Anutin believes there would be no need for it because the country’s public health system is well-equipped to handle the situation.

Between April 29 and May 4, according to Dr. Sumanee Wacharasint, assistant spokeswoman for the CCSA, 213,958 people registered for Thailand Pass.

Dr. Sumanee said that 202,878 (94.8 percent) of them got their registrations authorized since the system has been made more convenient and the pass has been easier to obtain.

From May 1, the Test & Go program will be discontinued, and fully vaccinated travelers will not be tested for Covid-19 upon arrival. During their stay, they are encouraged to self-test with antigen kits.

Daily caseloads are lessening, according to Dr. Sumanee, with hospital room occupancy rates for severe cases down 20.1 percent, compared to a drop of 25 percent reported last week.
