The grand opening ceremony took place today at the Thai Government House, presided over by Thailand’s Prime Minister and Finance Minister, H.E.Mr. Srettha Thavisin, who also serves as the Chairman of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Deputy Chairwoman of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, and key officials from the Ministries of Tourism and Sports, Culture, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) joined in announcing this monumental celebration.

Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Tourism and Sports, emphasized the significance of the Thailand Winter Festival as a testament to the Thai government’s dedication to boosting the economy through tourism, showcasing Thai soft power, and elevating national events and festivals on the global stage.

A Multifaceted Celebration

The Thailand Winter Festival is a fusion of five major events: the enchanting Loi Krathong Festival, the globally recognized Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok, the enticing Amazing Thailand Passport Privileges, the mesmerizing Vijit Chao Phraya lighting extravaganza, and the captivating Amazing Thailand Countdown.

Organized by TAT in collaboration with public and private sector partners, these events span from November to December, with Amazing Thailand Passport Privileges extending until mid-February.

November Highlights: The Delightful Colours of the River

The festivities kick off with the Delightful Colours of the River, Loi Krathong Celebrations 2023, running from November 24-28. Bangkok’s Padung Krung Kasem Canal will be adorned with vibrant displays of Loi Krathong celebrations from Chiang Mai, Roi Et, Samut Songkhram, Sukhothai, and Tak. The Chao Phraya River will be illuminated, accompanied by the Bangkok River Festival 2023 and ICONSIAM Chao Phraya River of Eternal Prosperity.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, highlighted the event’s purpose: providing a glimpse of how Loi Krathong is celebrated across the country, aiming to inspire both Thai and foreign tourists to explore different provinces for a traditional experience.

December Extravaganza: A Month of Festivities

December brings four extraordinary events. The Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2023 on December 3 showcases Thailand’s prowess in hosting world-class sporting events, expecting around 30,000 runners from across the globe.

Under the Amazing Thailand Passport Privileges, tourists can enjoy promotions and benefits from December 1 to February 15, fostering a memorable and rewarding travel experience.

Throughout December, ‘Vijit Chao Phraya’ lighting extravaganza will illuminate Bangkok with night-time enchantment, featuring light shows, projection mapping, and cultural performances along the Chao Phraya River.

The grand finale, the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2024 at Wat Arun, promises an unforgettable New Year’s Eve with fireworks, light shows, and cultural performances, solidifying Thailand’s position as the Global Countdown Destination.
