WHO Approves Covovax Vaccine

The world has found another weapon in the form of the Covovax vaccine in the fight against the pandemic amid the increasing outbreak of corona infection and the lack of vaccines in poor countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the emergency use of this vaccine.

Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) will produce this vaccine in India under the license of American company Novavax. Covovax Serum is the version of the Novavax vaccine. Adar Poonawalla said that the ongoing fight against Corona will be stronger with the emergency clearance to Covovax.

While approving the Covavax vaccine, the WHO said, ‘This vaccine will now be distributed to poor countries as Covavax under the Global Vaccine Sharing System. The WHO said that so far less than 10% of the corona vaccine has been given in 41 countries, while 40% of the vaccine has not yet been given in 98 countries. Covovax is the ninth vaccine to receive emergency use approval from the United Nations Health Agency.

Novavax and Indian company Serum Institute of India have signed an agreement to prepare 200 crore doses of corona vaccine in a year. The deal was signed in August. According to the agreement, at least 100 million doses will be produced for low- and middle-income countries.
