World’s Largest Sapphire Discovered in Sri Lanka

A very unique incident has come to light from Sri Lanka. During the excavation of a well from a merchant’s house here, a huge and valuable Sapphire Cluster of about 510 kg has been found. It is said to be the largest sapphire in the world. According to experts, the cost of this sapphire in the international market will be around seven and a half billion rupees ($ 100 million).

According to Sri Lankan officials, this incident is from Ratnapura area of Sri Lanka. Here the work of digging a well was going on behind the house of Dr. Gamage, a trader of precious gems. During this, suddenly this sapphire has been found. The weight of this auction of 25 lakh carats is about 510 kg. According to Dr. Gamage, “The workers got this auction during the digging of the well in their house, which they informed me. Later we got it out of here.”

The name ‘Serendipity Sapphire’ given to Neelam
Experts have named this sapphire ‘Serendipity Sapphire’. Which means ‘Sapphire found by luck’. Renowned gemologist Dr Jaimini Joysa said, “I have never seen such a large sapphire before. It must have been made probably 400 million years ago.”

Also, experts believe that this auction can serve as a lifeline for Sri Lanka’s gem industry. Let us tell you that due to the corona virus epidemic and lockdown, the gem industry here has suffered a lot since last year. People associated with the gem industry expressed hope that this auction found here will once again work to attract international buyers to the gems industry of Sri Lanka.

According to Tilak Veerasinhe, head of the National Gem and Jewelery Authority of Sri Lanka, “The auction found here is very special. It is probably the largest sapphire in the world and given its size and value, we feel that it will attract the attention of international experts and museums.” Will pull towards Sri Lanka.”
