You Can Now Track Buses in Delhi Using Google Maps

To make bus travel more smooth in Delhi and to reduce the waiting time of buses for passengers, the Delhi government has integrated the public transport transit system with Google Maps. With this initiative, real time location of Delhi’s DTC and Cluster buses will be available on Google Map. On Google Map itself, the passenger will be able to know the real time route of the buses, all the bus stops, arrival and departure timings in that route so that people can plan their journey till the last minute.

Delhi government’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot launched this scheme in association with Google today. Till now the information of buses which was given in Google Map was according to the schedule, but now this information will be given on the basis of real time.

The Delhi government says that once this project is started, the location of the standing and moving routes of Delhi buses will be available to the passengers in real time. The passenger will get all the routes and bus stops, arrival and departure timings of all the buses in real time. Even information about bus numbers will also be available. BHIP will update the delay or early arrival of the bus, which will reduce the waiting time and also reduce the congestion at the bus stop. This facility is also available in Hindi and passengers can change the language either in Google Map setting or in device language setting.

With today’s partnership with Google Maps, Delhi has joined the league of cities in the world to provide real time information without any hassles of public transport, so that people can plan their travel till the last minute. Kailash Gehlot said that I hope that with the help of Google, many other transit apps will be encouraged to tap into the Open Data Portal of the Transport Department and will also become a solution to make Delhi’s public transport system the default option for all .

The Delhi government says that with this partnership with Google, the Delhi government envisages creating a smart and traveller-friendly multi-modal transit planner in Delhi. Earlier in 2018, the Delhi government developed and published Open Transit Data in technical collaboration with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-D) to provide real-time data access to the public including GPS feeds of all bus stops, route maps, time tables.
