The 73rd Republic Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Bangkok hosted by, H.E. Ms. Suchitra Durai. The celebrations were in line with the COVID-19 measures required by the government. In her remarks, Ambassador elaborated upon the recent developments in bilateral relations including the launch of celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Thailand this year along with the continued celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and organization of various events, bilateral trade reaching the record figure of around USD 15 billion in 2021 as well as the achievements of Government of India in carrying out world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination drive. She also congratulated Prof. Chirapat Prapandvidya for receiving the Padma Shri Award 2022 from the Government of India, for his contribution in promoting Sanskrit in Thailand.
The celebrations were joined by the Indian diaspora and various association representatives from different parts of India. The program included a short cultural program including patriotic songs by the Indian Women’s Club and Bharatanatyam dance performance. Shri Gurmokh Singh Sachdev of the Indian Association of Thailand was acknowledged for his numerous contributions to the service of the community. Indian motorbikes- Royal Enfield and Bajaj organized a photo exhibit on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Azad Hind Fauj, and his connection with Thailand.
